This is a high quality, VERY ACCURATE, heavy-duty gauge properly calibrated in AMERICAN SIZES for ferrous metals (steel, iron) or non-ferrous metals (copper, silver, gold, etc.) This tool will last a lifetime, constructed of high-grade steel and precision machined to read very accurately. It is suitable for wire or sheet metal, and measures from 0 gauge to 36 gauge. On the reverse side it is calibrated in .001" measurements. The numbers are EMBOSSED in rather than printed on, so they will not wear off. A Very Quality Tool. Be very careful of other gauges that appear to be similar at a cheaper price---many of them have their numbers PRINTED on and/or are calibrated in BRITISH sizes ( S.W.G. ),  which does us no good in the U.S, or they are accurate but calibrated for FERROUS metals only (iron, steel, etc.). Many are constructed of flimsy metal and/or poorly machined.
