Vintage Ice Fishing, Spearing Decoy, Michigan Brown Trout,1930's

Description

Here we have a wonderful vintage fish decoy, or spearing decoy, a Brown Trout out of Michigan.
Circa 1930's.  The Fish is 7 1/4" long, and painted a
metallic
gold over her back and
upper sides, and belly, and red abstracted dots were applied all over.  Finally, a coat of clear varnish was applied on top.  Over time the gold has tarnished, and the varnish has mellowed and yellowed.
The elegantly cut and painted fins are firmly set into the wooden sides of the Fish, as is the pig-tail line tie.  Small pearl beads are nailed in for eyes.  Note: the nicely coved out wooden tail.  This is a fantastic and rare Fish made by a skilled carver, born from materials at hand during the early Depression, all original, and having a patina appropriate to its age and history.  A Jewel.
