his listing is for a vintage H.N. White Co. "Cleveland" model baritone horn. The serial number is 137602. This is a 3 valve horn with a straight/upward facing bell. It has satin silver plate finish.
This is a former school horn that has been retired by the district that owned it. Like most school horns, this one has taken its share of knocks. It should be presumed to need work, possibly up to and including a full overhaul, to be put in proper playing condition. Please read on for more details regarding its condition. While I strive to be as accurate as possible with my description, please understand that I can not detail every minor imperfection. If I miss something it is not intentional. Please read the description fully, check out the pictures carefully, and if in doubt, ask questions prior to bidding! This instrument is being sold as is.
There are many dents, dings, pings, and nicks throughout, including some pretty significant sized ones. I have tried to show the worst of them in my pictures. The curve of the reinforcement guard on the bottom has been distorted as it has been pushed in to the underlying tubing. There are many re-soldered joints, some of which have excess solder surrounding them. There are also a few spots where there are solder scars with nothing attached in the immediate vicinity, as if something is missing, but I'm not sure what would be missing. None of the tuning slides are stuck. It seems to have good compression as an audible pop is heard when removing the slides. None of the pistons are stuck, but a couple of the
lower valve caps would not unscrew
. The pistons move freely and rebound quickly, but they are very clanky sounding. I'm sure it needs new felts and a good cleaning and lubrication. The silver plate finish is almost fully intact, with light tarnish. This instrument has a school ID number professionally engraved just below the logo on the bell.
This horn comes in what is likely its original case. The case is in fair condition. The inside is clean and odor free, with minimal wear and tear. The exterior has wear around the edges. It looks like one of the wood joints is starting to come apart a bit, but it is still pretty solid overall. The school ID number is also written on the exterior of the case in white marker.
There is no mouthpiece, and no other accessories included with this horn.
Please feel free to message me with any questions!
    Thanks again for looking!
