This unit does have red sealer paint residue on the bottom side that will not affect installation or performance --- This is a new assembly and was never installed.
This is the OEM improved rectifier regulator that no longer uses the switched 12-volt purple wire. This regulator is more reliable / durable than the original units or aftermarket copies with the purple wire and finned style cooling on the bottom side. These units start charging when the flywheel starts turning, they DO NOT need the purple 12-volt switch wire to turn them on. They also cool better with the pole style cooling compared to the finned cooling. You may need to splice the grey tach wire if you have an early engine that does not have the Deutsch connector.
