Cannondale SM500 1984 model. First Year Cannondale made a mountain bike, second year they made any bikes. 16” Frame, 24” Wheels. Shifting has been upgraded to Shimano SIS. Original owner, professional mechanic. Retired and now de cluttering.
Got this for my wife as soon as I found out about the new mtb line and saw the specs. The first true mountain bike that really fit her properly without going custom. She is 5’3”.
I upgraded the shifters to Deore DX and the brakes to an Odyssey Pitbull rear and Suntour XC front about the time she stopped riding off-road. The newer parts are barely used.
This is a real small mountain bike, not just a kids bike.
Components are:
Shimano Deore DX derailleurs and shift/brake levers. Shimano 7 speed rear quick release hub (HG-20) with 12-28 gearing. Sugino AT triple crank set with 24-36-44 gears. Suntour sealed bottom bracket. DID chain. Odyssey pitbull rear brake with Mathauser shoes. Suntour XC cantilever front brake. Specialized sealed front hub, bolt on (this is the stock front wheel). Sun-Cannondale 24” rims, Specialized Ground Control 24 x 1.95 tires. Tires are almost new but have been installed awhile. Specialized Sealed bearing headset, 1 inch. Suntour QR seat clamp. SR Laprade 22.2 fluted seat post with stock Cannondale shim. Women’s Selle Italia anatomic leather seat. Specialized bull moose handlebars. Shimano PD-MX 15 pedals. Extras include Blackburn rear rack, aluminum water bottle cage and vintage Snoopy rear wheel reflector.
Frame has scratches and scuffs, both from use and storage. It has never been ridden really hard. I have frame specs from Cannondale. Let me know if you want more details or pictures.
